Our method of training is designed to develop Character, Confidence, Courage, and Complete Soundness of mind. We focus on developing and utilizing the natural drive that every dog has. We also recognize how important bite training is as a way to teach and educate a dog on practicing and maintaining self-control. All obedience training must be completed before even attempting to train a canine for personal protection. Lets face it…any dog can bite someone at any time! It is a natural defense that all canines have. But we can teach them how to control their actions and educate them when it is, and when it is not appropriate to bite by teaching them impulse control. 
Many people have a misconstrued idea; that all Personal Protection Dogs are crazy and can not fit into a normal family life. This could not be any further from the truth. A fully trained personal protection dog can make the most loving family pet that a person could ask for.
Every dog is naturally protective of their pack. A dog looks at their household family as their pack and will in most cases be loyal to them. But a low drive, weak nerved , or skittish dog might not always be able to do this the way we would hope. In many cases these dogs end up in kill shelters because they have bitten someone out of fear or their owners have deemed them worthless.
There are many things that can determine the outcome of a dog:
- Genetics / Breeding
- Early Socialization
- Improper Training
- Lack of Training
- Improper Handling
“A poorly bred back yard dog will become what it was bred to be… A poorly bred backyard dog!” On very few occasions there is an exception.
Not properly socializing a dog will leave them not feeling sure of themselves and this can create an unpredictable, low self-esteem dog. Poor training is actually worse than no training at all. Poor training can actually break a dog to where they never recover from it. The same goes from improper handling. If your dog shows little to no drive and you force them into a situation that requires them to react in a defensive manner. This could destroy any confidence that your dog may have had and you now have to start all over at the beginning; building up their drive again.
A dog that lacks courage and confidence is a dangerous dog. For that reason not every dog is right for personal protection. Just because your dog is a German shepherd or has an amazing pedigree doesn’t always translate to them being or ever becoming a Personal Protection Dog. There are many things that factor into this.
